About the JPG to PNG Converter
Some places only accept PNG files: certain upload forms, design tools, sticker and icon workflows. And if you plan to edit an image several times, PNG is the safer working format, because every time a JPG is saved it is compressed again and loses a little more detail, while a PNG stores the pixels exactly. This converter opens your JPG in the browser, draws it onto a canvas and saves those pixels as a PNG file.
It helps to be clear about what the conversion cannot do. The PNG contains exactly what the JPG shows, including any blockiness or blur that JPG compression has already introduced; it does not restore lost detail. It also does not make anything transparent: a white background stays white. If you need a transparent background, erase it in an image editor and then save as PNG, which will keep the transparency.
Expect the PNG to be much larger than the JPG. PNG’s lossless compression suits flat graphics but handles the fine texture of photos poorly, so the same pixels take more bytes. If file size matters more than editability, stay with JPG or use the Image Compressor instead.

The decoded JPG pixels are stored without further compression loss, so later edits and re-saves don’t degrade them.
Same dimensions

JPEG-only input
The drop area accepts .jpg and .jpeg files, so you can’t accidentally convert the wrong type.
EXIF removed
Camera metadata such as GPS coordinates and capture time is not included in the PNG.

Limitations
- Converting does not improve quality or remove compression artifacts already in the JPG.
- No transparency is added; every pixel in the PNG is fully opaque.
- PNG files of photographs are usually much larger than the original JPG.
- One image per conversion; there is no batch mode.
- HEIC photos from iPhones are not accepted. Export or share them as JPG first.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting JPG to PNG improve the image quality?
No. JPG compression permanently removes some detail when the JPG is created. The PNG preserves the image exactly as it is now, artifacts included, and prevents further loss if you edit and re-save it later.
Does the PNG get a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque. To remove a background you need an image editor; once the background is erased, saving as PNG keeps it transparent.
Why is the PNG file so much larger?
PNG uses lossless compression, which works well for flat colors but poorly for the noise and gradients in photos. The pixels are identical; they just need more bytes when nothing may be thrown away.
Is my photo’s location data kept?
No. The PNG is created from the decoded pixels only, so EXIF metadata such as GPS coordinates, camera model and capture time is not included.
Can I convert WebP, BMP or GIF files here?
