About the PDF to Word
This converter reads the text layer of your PDF and rebuilds it as ordinary, editable paragraphs in a Word (.docx) file that opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice Writer or Google Docs. Each PDF page starts on a new Word page, and the approximate text size is kept, so headings still stand out from body text. The aim is to give you the words in a form you can edit, not a copy of the PDF’s design.
It helps to know how this works. A PDF does not store paragraphs; it stores small runs of text placed at exact positions on the page. The converter collects those runs with PDF.js, groups runs that sit on the same baseline into lines, and joins lines into paragraphs when they are evenly spaced and the previous line reaches close to the right edge of the text. A larger gap, a change of text size, a short line or a bullet or number at the start begins a new paragraph. Large horizontal gaps, such as between table columns, become tab characters. Fonts, colours, images, tables, columns, headers and page layout are not reproduced.
It works best on PDFs that were created from a word processor or exported from another program, such as reports, letters, contracts and articles. A scanned page is only a picture of text, so it has nothing to extract; the tool tells you which pages had no selectable text and leaves a note in their place in the document. For example, if you have lost the original of a two-page cover letter and only kept the PDF, convert it, open the .docx, change the name and date, and save it again as a PDF with Word to PDF or your word processor.

Limitations
- Layout, images, tables, columns, fonts, colours, headers and footers are not preserved; the result is the text, ready to edit and restyle.
- Scanned PDFs and photographed pages cannot be converted, because this tool does not do OCR (text recognition).
- Multi-column pages come out with the columns mixed line by line, and table cells become text separated by tabs.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with the PDF Password tool.
- Some PDFs store text with unusual character mappings; in that case the extracted words can contain wrong or missing characters.
Privacy
The PDF is read and the Word file is built by JavaScript in your browser; neither file is uploaded to FlexyPdf’s servers.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the Word file look plainer than my PDF?
The converter rebuilds only the text. Fonts, colours, pictures, tables and the exact page layout are left out, and the text is set in Calibri at roughly the original sizes. That keeps the document easy to edit, but you will need to restyle it if you want it to look like the original.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
No. A scanned page is an image, and this tool does not include OCR to recognise letters in images. If your scan was made searchable (you can select text in it in a PDF reader), it already has a text layer and will convert.
What happens to tables?
Tables are not rebuilt as Word tables. Text in the same row usually ends up on one line, with a tab where the gap between columns is large. You can turn such lines back into a table in Word with Insert > Table > Convert Text to Table.
Some words are joined together or split oddly. Why?
Spaces in a PDF are often not stored as characters; they are gaps between text runs. The converter inserts a space when the gap is wide enough, which works for most documents, but tightly spaced or justified text can occasionally lose or gain a space.
Is there a page limit?
There is no fixed page limit, but files over 50 MB are not accepted. Long documents simply take longer, since every page is read in your browser.
