About the QR Code Reader
A QR code stores a short piece of text: most often a web address, but also Wi-Fi login details, a contact card, a phone number or a calendar event. This reader decodes a code from a picture you upload, which is handy when the code arrived as a screenshot or an email attachment and there is nothing to point a phone at. It can also scan live through your device’s camera.
Decoding is done in your browser by jsQR, an open-source JavaScript QR code library, so it works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. For uploaded images the tool first tries the browser’s built-in barcode detector where one exists and falls back to jsQR when it isn’t available or finds nothing. Large photos are scanned at a reduced size first and again at a higher resolution if needed, and light-on-dark (inverted) codes are tried as well.
The result shows the decoded text with a label for the kind of content: web link, Wi-Fi network, phone number, email, SMS, location, contact card, calendar event or plain text. Only http and https addresses become clickable links, and it is still worth reading the address before opening it, because a QR code can point anywhere. For Wi-Fi codes, the network name and security type are listed separately, and the full decoded text, which includes the password, is shown in the result box.
If no code is found, you get a clear message rather than a guess. Cropping the picture so the code fills more of it often helps; the Image Crop Tool does that. To make a code instead of reading one, use the QR Code Generator.

Limitations
- Reads one QR code per image; if several are visible, only one is returned.
- Only QR codes are supported, not product barcodes (EAN, UPC, Code 128) or other 2D codes such as Data Matrix.
- Blurry, tiny, steeply angled or partly hidden codes may not decode; a sharper photo or tighter crop helps.
- Camera scanning needs your permission and a camera the browser can access.
- HEIC photos from iPhones can’t be opened in most browsers; use a screenshot or a JPG instead.
Privacy
Images and camera frames are decoded in your browser; nothing is sent to FlexyPdf’s servers. The camera is used only while scanning and is switched off once a code is read or you click Stop Camera.
Frequently asked questions
Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot on the same phone?
Yes. Take the screenshot, open this page, tap the drop area and choose the screenshot from your gallery. That is the main reason to use an image-based reader.
Why does it say no QR code was found?
The decoder needs the three corner squares and the blank margin around the code to be visible. Crop the image so the code fills more of it, make sure it is sharp and not cut off, and try again. Damaged or very low-resolution codes may not be readable at all.
Is it safe to open the link?
The tool never opens links by itself. Read the full address first, check that the domain is the one you expect, and be careful with shortened links or lookalike domains, especially from codes on posters or in unexpected messages.
Which browsers does the camera scanner work in?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop and mobile, as long as you allow camera access. If the page can’t reach a camera, you see a message and can upload a photo instead.
Does it read barcodes on products?
No, only QR codes. Product barcodes such as EAN and UPC, and other 2D formats such as Data Matrix, are not supported.
What does it show for a Wi-Fi QR code?
The result is labeled as a Wi-Fi network, with the network name and security type listed. The full decoded text, including the password, appears in the result box so you can copy it.
