Currency Converter
Convert between 45 currencies using reference rates downloaded from ExchangeRate-API. These are indicative mid-market rates, not the rate a bank or card provider will charge.
About the Currency Converter
Enter an amount, choose two currencies, and you get the converted amount, the exchange rate in both directions and a quick table for 1 to 10,000 units. The converter starts at US dollars to Indian rupees and offers 45 currencies: the major ones (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CNY and others), the Gulf currencies (AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, BHD), South Asian currencies (INR, PKR, BDT, NPR, LKR) and a selection from the rest of Asia, the Americas, Europe and Africa.
When the page opens, your browser downloads one table of exchange rates against the US dollar from ExchangeRate-API's free service. Every pair is calculated through the dollar: for rupees to dirhams, the tool divides the dirhams per dollar by the rupees per dollar. Under the converter you can see the date and time of the rate data and a link to the source. If the download fails, the converter shows an error and no figures; it never falls back to built-in or old rates. If the data it receives is more than two days old, a warning says so.
The results are indicative mid-market reference rates, roughly the midpoint between buying and selling prices on wholesale currency markets. A bank, card provider, forex counter or money-transfer service applies its own rate, usually a less favourable one, and may add fees, so use these numbers for estimates and budgeting, not as a quote. Typical questions are what a $49 subscription costs in rupees or how many dirhams ₹50,000 buys. To see how far a bank's rate is from the reference rate, work out the difference with the Percentage Calculator.

Limitations
- Rates are indicative mid-market reference rates. They are not the rate a bank or card will give you, and they include no fees or commission.
- The source publishes each rate against the dollar to only a few significant figures, for example 0.887 euros per dollar, so cross rates such as EUR to INR can differ slightly from other sources.
- The source updates its free rates about once a day; these are not live, minute-by-minute market prices.
- Only the latest rates are available. There are no historical rates or charts.
- An internet connection and the third-party service are needed; if the service is down, the converter cannot show a result.
Privacy
When the page opens, and when you press Refresh rates or Try again, your browser requests the US-dollar rate table from api.exchangerate-api.com. That request contains the currency code USD and, like any web request, your IP address; the amount and the currencies you select are never sent.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the rate my bank will give me?
No. This is a mid-market reference rate. Banks, card networks and exchange counters set their own buying and selling rates, normally with a margin, and may charge fees on top. Ask your provider for the exact rate before you transfer money.
How often are the rates updated?
The source publishes new rates about once a day. The "Rates as of" line shows the time of the data you are looking at, and Refresh rates downloads the newest table.
Why is my result slightly different from other converters?
Different services take their rates from different providers at different times, and this source rounds each rate to a few significant figures. Differences in the third or fourth digit are normal for reference rates.
Which currencies can I convert?
USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, OMR, BHD, SGD, HKD, NZD, NPR, LKR, PKR, BDT, MXN, BRL, KRW, NOK, SEK, DKK, ZAR, RUB, TRY, PLN, THB, IDR, MYR, PHP, CZK, ILS, EGP, NGN, ARS, CLP, COP, TWD and VND.
Why does it say live rates are unavailable?
The rate table could not be downloaded, usually because you are offline, a browser extension or network filter blocked the request, or the service is temporarily down. Press Try again in a moment.
